The history of the Museum of Zoology of the University Louis Pasteur and the City of Strasbourg begins with the Natural HistoryLaboratory, a lab set up by Jean Hermann in the eighteenth century filled with fascinating items.

Since then, the zoological collections have been constantly enriched, making this museum one of the most outstanding in France for its diversity, quality and the vastness of its collections.

Due to lack of space, many of them remain hidden to the visitors' eyes and are stored in large reserve collection rooms. The public is able to see some of them during temporary exhibits.

Researchers from the world over regularly consult this scientific heritage, a veritable data bank which is regarded as one of the best on both regional and world levels.
