Sausheim
Sausheim
Like many villages in Alsace, Sausheim was for a long time a possession of the Hapsburgs, and shared the history of these powerful lords for many years.

It was in 1648 that Sausheim passed to the French Crown, under the Treaty of Westphalia. The village was to remain essentially rural until the 19th Century. Its industrialisation began with the building of the Dollfus Noack factory in 1843. Three-quarters destroyed in the second world war, Sausheim regained its dynamism in 1959 with the establishing of the Peugeot factories, which were followed by many other new businesses.

Anxious to preserve and maintain a "floral village where life is a pleasure", the local district has laid out three parks with trees and flowers, designed for sports, conviviality, and walks along a small river. The village's floral decorations change with the seasons - beds, tubs and hanging baskets take on iridescent, changing colours for the pleasure of locals and visitors alike.

What to see in Sausheim:
>The fountains, with their very varied architecture.
>The river-driven turbine mill.
>The geodesic stela from the Napoleonic era.
