René MURÉ
A winemaker motivated by the constant search for the "terrior" in his wines.
Gastronomically speaking, what's more interesting for a wine connoisseur than sipping a great glass of wine. I'd say probably another great glass of wine. With map in hand, I and a good friend set out to do just that; discover and taste plenty of delicious Alsatian wines.
Our destination was the village of Rouffach. We had an appointment with René Muré, one of the finest winemakers in Alsace. What a pleasure it must be for him to perpetrate a family tradition started in 1648!
Muré's "degustation" room, with its big picture window and panoramic view almost places you in the middle of those terraced slopes that produce his elegant, full-bodied wines. In fact, Muré describes the house style as
"elegant with harmony between the fruit aromas that comes naturally from the soil." That special soil gives aromatic, opulent wines that can be stored for years and that become better with age.
It's a "don't miss" stop along the Route du Vin. René Muré wines are sold in the U.S., particularly in Boston, Baltimore, Washington and New York.
